For tapeless import, you use LOG AND TRANSFER. Log and CAPTURE is for tape media only.

If that doesn’t work, try CLIPWRAP, or MPEG STREAMCLIP.

sorry , thats what I meant. I did use Log and Transfer, but files dont show up and I cant import them.. im probably being stupid and tired, well im defnitely tired..!!

have viewed clips in streamclip but need to edit..

IF L&T won’t work, that means that the full card structure isn’t present. If you can view them in MPEG STREAMCLIP, then export from there as an editable codec…like ProRes. It isn’t mainly a viewer, it is conversion software.

Card structure… ? how do i fix this..?

wanted to avoid having to convert all the media back to a fcp friendly format..have hundreds of clips…arrggh.. thought this was going to be easy…

The entire file structure on the card that you pull from the camera. When you backup the card to a drive, you need to make a new folder, name that folder something unique (this is your REEL number), and then drag EVERYTHING on that card, in the structure it appears on the card, into that folder. If you don’t, and you erase the card, then there is no way to recover the full structure, as there are small subfolders that contain information that FCP needs to import the footage.

If you lack that, then look at ClipWrap or MPEG STREAMCLIP to convert the footage.

Wait…what? You want to work with the footage in FCP, but don’t want to convert it to a codec FCP works with? I don’t get what you mean.

It IS easy, if you do things right. Copy the full structure, use Log and Transfer to view the footage, and import what you want, name the clips as you do…done. Without that, you have to use MPEG STREAMCLIP to view the footage, and convert.

Things are easy when you do things right.

I couldnt agree more…

I did ‘ select all ‘ from the card but i guess I could have missed smaller sub folders..i will clearly have to make sure next time. Lucky i backed up to tape..

Yes things are much easier when you do them right…
