Sony vegas video preview – jerky playback?

And i noticed that if i import 720 30fps it works fine it’s normal playback but im frostrated couse i have this amazing camera which can shoot 1080 AT 60FPS (i don’t use that cause youtube don’t accecpt it) and i can also shoot with 30fps(1080 or 720) but playback suck and i can’t edit nothing!
What is the source format of your video? If it’s non-standard h.264 then what you are seeing is normal.
I have a Sony CX-12 that shoots 1080i AVCHD and it plays back smoothly in Vegas. I also have a cheap Kodak Zi8 that shoots h.264 and 720p plays back smoothly but 1080p is very jerky. The problem is the video format.
Vegas is optimized for industry standard formats like AVCHD. If you want smooth playback you should stick to a camera that shoots a standard format. If you want to use a camera that shoots whatever the manufacture decided to use, then expect problems editing it and playing it back in Vegas.
Shooting 60p should only be used for special effects work like slow-motion. It is not needed for normal video and there is no way to deliver it as 30fps and 25fps are the industry standards depending on your region.

What do you mean with “non-standart h.264”? Sory but im not so good at this area.
My original clips from camera have this codecs: (read with G-spot)
video codec: H264 Name:H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
Sound codec: 0x00ff (AAC)If i go to Sony Vegas and click the clip there it says for video codec “ffdshow Video Codec” and for audio it says “Stream attributes cannot be determined” -(but this is second problem and i have to convert audio to MP3 layer in order to play it in Sony).
My friend which is also familier with codecs suggested that i should adjust codecs priority in Sony Vegas but i don’t know how to do it and he isn’t familier with Sony Vegas so if anyone knows if this is possible please let me know.
Basicly i just want that my 1080p 30fps would playback normal in Sony Vegas and i think that it has to be a solution for this.
And i can’t afford another camera cause i don’t have any income and im really happy with the quality of my footage for the price of the camera. Sorry for my english.Thank you for your reply John

AVCHD is the HD standard for AVC/MPEG4 footage. This is the format that edits best in Vegas. When looking for an AVC camera, you should look for one with the AVCHD logo so you know it shoots supported standard format. If not, you get whatever part of the H.264 spec the camera manufacturer decided to implement and no guarantee that any software will be able to edit your footage. While Vegas does Ok with some non-AVCHD formats, there are some out there that simply won’t edit smoothly.

It looks like you have fddshow installed and the footage is being interpreted by that first and then Vegas. I don’t know, I don’t use fddshow but that could be your problem.

Thank you John for explaning it to me. I didn’t know back that when i bougt this camera.
I tryed to unistall Ffdshow but it wount let me do it – i also did a system restore and the unistaller still doesn’t let me to unistall it.
But i got Ffdshow with my camera on a CD so i think i need it. I also have Divx codec pack and Xvid codec pack along with my Ffdshow codec pack … I also downloaded CoreAVC (“CoreCodec CoreAVC® 2.0 for Windows is a complete solution for playing high quality HD H.264 videos on your Windows based computer.”), but the playback in vegas didn’t change…I think that this problem can be solved by changing the priority of the video codecs installed on my PC but the problem is that in windows 7 they removed this option.
So guess im stuck with 720p 30fps. 🙁 What a shame.

John you said that footage from your camera Sony CX-12 playbacks smoothly in Vegas … Do you mean realtime playback or RAM preview. Cause if i do a RAM preview it plays smoothly for me two (Build dynamic RAM preview- option under tools).
But does your 1080i AVCHD playsback smoothly in realtime and if so what are your computer specs?

Real-time playback not RAM preview.
But does your 1080i AVCHD playsback smoothly in realtime and if so what are your computer specs?
Yes. 1080i full screen preview on my secondary monitor. My specs are on the PC Equipment page of my web site. It’s an old QuadCore. If you’re still using a DualCore there’s your problem right there. That’s very old technology by today’s standards with 6 cores being the latest.
