Hi everyone. I’m having a hard time with tracking Mortion. I’m not any expert on sony vegas . I have sony vegas pro 10 and i have tracking motion . I’m trying to use it but no one seems to know the answer to my questions. I want to make a video like this:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8ZPtbQFFog

How can i go about doing this?

I have the original video without Obama’s face and i’m planning on adding another face. I know how to do tracking motion for text. But what do i use for a picture?
i know when you are done tracking you go to insert and then text media.
but where do i go to insert the face? the picture? and what else do i have to do after that? As i said i can insert text but how do i insert a picture? and how do i get rid of the body and everything else so that only the face will show up in the video. Thanks

New picture goes on track 1.
Original video goes on track 2.
Open Pan/Crop on the picture, switch to Mask mode, outline the face so that’s all that’s left, switch back to Position mode and resize and reposition the face accordingly.
    This creates keyframe #1.
Step through the video and adjust the face size and position as required.
Each time you make a change, a new keyframe will be created for you.
The amount of movement on the original video will determine how many keyframes you’ll need.

Warning: if you don’t want to invest in a motion tracking tool like what’s a part of Boris Continuum Complete, this will take some time to do so be patient.

Thanks Mike for your answer. Well i do own Boris Continuum Complete. I have the tracking tool. I already used it to track the face from the original video. Now how do i go about doing the rest? Do I still use what you wrote above? or is there another method. I’m a little confused.

Pablo, I don’t own BCC so I can’t answer your question.
John Rofrano is the resident expert on it so hopefully he’ll offer a solution for you.

You want to use BCC Match Move. I show you how to do this in my Boris TV episode:

Match Move in Sony Vegas Pro

That should give you everything you need to know.

Hey John ! thanks for your answer. I’ve actually watched this video a few times but you never show how to add an image instead of text. Where do i add the picture? there is not an option to add picture. when i go to Insert…. there is not an option to insert pictures…there is that option for text but not pictures. I’ve looked in youtube but no one seems to have anything on it.
I did this instead. I went to insert..i added a video tracker and added the picture. I masked the head so that only the head would show up. Now i can see the head insserted on the video but when i play it… the head stays in the same position… it doesn’t follow the tracking I did at first. the head( picture ) stays still and there is still that box ( background place holder) on the video. How can i go now about making the picture take up the place of the background holder.

As i said If it was text i would follow your steps but there is not an option…for pictures…let me know if you have any tips or ideas.
    thanks

I’m not sure why you think there is no option for pictures. The first thing I say in the video is that BCC Match Move is a 2-to-1 transform and uses the Compositing Mode to track ANYTHING that is on the track below it. Just place your picture on the track below and it will track your picture. If you need to add a mask to the picture you can do that with the Mask tool in Pan / Crop.

Yes I finally got it!! thank you so much. I’m just dumb haha. I’m really happy. I have one last question . there are certain parts of the video where I don’t want to do the motion tracking anymore …. how can i get rid of it and then resume once I feel the need to? Like in your motorcycle video..let’s suppose it was a longer video and you wanted to keep the text for 20 seconds then go 10 seconds without it and then resume it again. How can i go about doing that? thank you so much you’ve been very helpful!

Can you post a screen capture so we can see it? I assume your cropping aspect ratio is not correct but without seeing it I’m only guessing.
