sony vegas pro v9, creates streaking noise

Did you record yourself the files you attempting to play back in Vegas? If so, try one that you did not record such as a mp3 of a song you purchased. Did that make any difference? If it didn’t, did Vegas ever work correctly? Before the new drivers?

Is Vegas the only program that does this?

If you are recording near speakers you may be capturing feedback. You may also want to check your microphone levels to make sure you are not peaking out.

Vegas will cause an annoying HISS even with high quality mp3s of songs. I installed Vegas 2 weeks ago and it was always like this.

Vegas is the ONLY program that does this consistently. I think Sound Forge did this several times, but I had Vegas open too. Anyway, SF does not do it now.

I use headphones, so I am sure I am not capturing feedback.

I forgot to add: I can make the same type of recording (count from 1 to 10) from Vegas, Sound Forge and Windows Recorder. Vegas will add the annoying HISS. The other two software will make a PERFECT recording.

Try this: remove the audio fx that Sony automatically adds to the track (where the track controls are on the left side of the timeline). See if it is one of those in the fx chain. It is odd though that you are having this issue. I have been answering a lot of questions and using Vegas since version 4 and have never had anyone ask about this issue.

I did. You mean to remove the “Track Noise Gate”, “Track EQ” and “Track Compressor”, right? It did not make any difference.

You are on the right track. I had a similar problem last year and it was definitely a driver conflict. Try downloading “DriverDetective” to check your drivers status.

Both audio and Video drivers were outdated. After I updated them, the problem ALMOST disappeared. I have to listen carefully and still I am not 100% if there is distortion in Vegas audio.

Now I am trying to update the outdated chipset drivers, and I am having a hard time doing this.

Maybe I was overexcited. Maybe the problem comes and goes. But I still hear the distortion clearly. It just seems less.

Ok, this is what I learned:

1) You need to install first the chipset drivers, then audio driver, the video driver. This tip is from a pc technician, this is how he always sets up the pcs.

I did this and now I have very little high pitch noise. But I still have it.

2) If I set vegas to use “Direct Sound Surround Mapper”, then Sound Forge works with no problem. But vegas still has the same problem.

Now I am looking to specific compatibility issues of vegas. I may also experiment with the ASIO drivers.
