    Hi.

I really want to use Sony Vegas Pro 9 on my x64 Vista, but there’s something holding me back. I am unable in achieving the right quality I’m looking for without the Mpeg-4 Xvid codec that I’ve formerly used in Vegas Movie Studio.

I have have tried everything in my own power, so that’s why I’m coming here.
The only thing, though, that I have yet to try is using the x32 setup instead of the x64, but I’m not sure it would make much of a difference. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, re-reinstalled several codecs and codec-packs from the web, but without luck.

The weird thing is, the codec works in Sony Vegas Movie Studio, but not in Vegas Pro.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Various codec paks are one of the worst things you can do, as they can blow away “good” settings and codecs that Vegas (and other apps) register/read.
Do you have “ignore third party codecs” enabled in Vegas?

Unfortunately, I can’t seem to be able to find an option for this anywhere.

    Where is this located?

    Your subject says it all:

Your 64-bit Vegas will NEVER see your 32-bit Xvid codec.

The only thing, though, that I have yet to try is using the x32 setup instead of the x64, but I’m not sure it would make much of a difference.

It will make all the difference in the world because that is, in fact, the solution! Xvid does not have a 64-bit codec and therefore cannot be used in 64-bit Vegas. You must use the 32-bit version of Vegas if you want to use codecs like Xvid or DivX which only come in 32-bit versions.

Thank you very much. I will reinstall with x32 version. I’ll report back with the results!

    Hi Chris,

Install ffdshow tryouts for x64 and be sure to install the VFW codec.

    https://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.php

    This worked for me!

I found the thumbnails were not displaying correctly with ffdshow x64, Xvid64 1.3.0 works better!

    Xvid64 may be downloaded here:
