  • Sony vegas Pro 13 play button doesnt work

I have encountered what seems to be a bug on Sony vegas Pro 13. My play button doesn’t work at times. The marker on the timeline doesn’t move across either. I have tried to use diffrent buttons to play the video but it still doesn’t work. The strange thing is if i just close sony vegas and re-open it i can press play no probem. I have no idea what the problem is, can anybody help?

Sometimes this happens because Vegas Pro cannot play the audio. If, for example, some other software has locked your audio device at 44.1KHz and Vegas Pro is trying to play pack at 48KHz (it’s default) the timeline will not play because the audio device can be switched into 48K mode. Check that the audio setting of your project and the audio settings of your audio device match.

This is an unfortunate and frustratingly intermittent play back kludge-bug. I and others who’ve experienced this and use ASIO Drivers, for an external Audio box, have reported this. I can go for weeks and not have an issues, but then, with the same project the 44<>48 “switcharoo” happens and I need to manually reset. Silly.

Try changing the Audio sample rate in your Project Properties from 48K to 44.1K just to see if it’s audio related. I assume you are just using the default audio chip on the motherboard which is shared by the rest of Windows and unfortunately the Windows sounds are recorded at 44.1 but audio for video is 48. Normally the chip switches back and forth between the two rates without a problem but sometimes a program running the the background may lock it down to 44.1 causing it to not switch to 48 and then Vegas cannot play it’s audio. I would not keep your project at 44.1. It should be 48, but this is just for debugging purpose to see if it could be audio related.

it was at 96k and changed it to 44.1 but it still happens. Sometimes i don’t even have a project open and i can’t press play. When it stops working, i can go on ‘undo’ or ‘redo’, or delete the project and put it back in and it can then play at times which is quite strange

[Harry Smith] “it was at 96k and changed it to 44.1 but it still happens.”

What if you change it to 48K which is what it should be?
