    Hello all.

What should I keep in mind if editing a feature film in Sony Vegas Pro 12, but having it sent to another editor who uses Final Cut Pro 7 via XML or another format to do a project exchange for color correction and editing audio?

Film was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon T3i (we ran into a snag). Audio was externally recorded. Sometimes it’s just two mics. Sometimes it’s three or more mics, meaning I’ve had to split the audio from those tracks into individual wav files for Vegas to ingest it.

From my understanding, I can only do cuts or dissolves. No effects. No audio envelopes. Everything is just basic. And I believe I can only have one video track and one audio track (which can be stereo)

Please advise, and thanks in advance.

You seem to understand the limitations. I’m not sure that the XML export works right out of the box. I’ve seen some scripts floating around that adjust the XML so that FCP 7 can read it. This may not go as smoothly as you had hoped.

The bigger problem might be your source video. I believe that FCP 7 can only work with QuickTime files so any source you have will have to be converted to a QuickTime file on the Mac. Once that’s done, Vegas Pro might not be able to read them again depending on the codec they use so I hope you don’t plan on a round-trip edit.

Note: I have never done this. I’m just going by what I have read here and my experience with FCP X.
