March 12, 2014 at 11:28 pmHi Will,
Right-click on the affected event and click “Properties” from the context menu, what does Vegas report for the video’s attributes and format? Click on the “About” tab and scroll to the very bottom to see what plugin is Vegas using to decode.
Have you tried converting a small (e.g. 10 second) portion of one of your source videos with a video converter to, say DV AVI (which is an editing format) and then import that into Vegas?
When you said the MP4s/MOVs shows up green, is it static or “moving” (e.g. the green blocks move or shimmer in some direction or another, have animated patterns) (https://oi41.tinypic.com/6humpu.jpg)? Do random colors other than green show up?
More importantly, what build of Vegas 12 are you using? (Latest is 770)

March 13, 2014 at 12:51 amWell, it could be the files themselves which is what Rick is getting at by converting them to something else. If you have a small file, you can upload it here or to a DropBox account and I’d be happy to download it and test it on my computers with Vegas Pro 12.0. I’m sure others would too.

March 13, 2014 at 12:54 amHi Rick,
Right clicking on the event and going to properties brings up a menu with tabs “Video Event”, “Media” and “General”. I couldn’t find an “About” tab however the general tab has information which is given in bold further down.
The video is 4 seconds long and I have tried converting it but it lost a LOT of quality. I could recognise what the video was showing but it was very glitchy and simply unbearable to watch. I will keep looking at converters to see if any yield a nice quality video in a different format. Also, the Green screen is a solid uniform green screen, it doesn’t move or flicker. I’m using Version 12.0 64 bit (Build 770).
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the offer, the video is in this zip file (if I’ve managed to do it correctly).

March 13, 2014 at 2:22 amWill, I just downloaded your file and had no problems opening it in Pro 10 on my home machine. I have QuickTime Player 7.6.8 installed on it.

March 13, 2014 at 4:19 amI downloaded the file and it was solid green in Vegas Pro 12.0 build 770 for me. So it’s not your computer or any codecs… it the file and Vegas Pro 12.0.
I converted it to M-JPEG using AviDemux 2.5 and AviDemux warned me that the width was not a multiple of 8. I told it to encode anyway and that file opened and played fine in Vegas Pro 12.0.
I’m guessing that your odd frame size of 1858×1058 is causing the problem. Try recording in a width that is a multiple of 8 pixels and see if that fixes it.

March 13, 2014 at 5:51 amSorry Will, I meant “General” (misread the tab), thought it was a codec issue so just asking you to check if Vegas is using “compoundplug.dll” to decode MP4s and “qt7.dll” to decode MOVs, in which it is for MP4.
Like John said, Vegas may dislike custom resolutions and although AVC allows videos to have such resolutions, anywhere from importing those files into Vegas to rendering may be affected, I’ve been through it myself
although it was GPU acceleration that caused problems.
I’ve tried importing your uploaded MP4 in Vegas 11 (build_683/x64) with no problems when GPUA was off, when it was on, BSOD – first time actually, never had anything that serious before with my MP4s…If you really need to retain full original quality, convert your source videos to lossless like Lagarith, otherwise go with John’s MJPEG suggestion.

March 13, 2014 at 10:08 amThanks for all the help guys!
It’s all working now!!! I was recording a window which had the taskbar to the left of the screen and the border around the edge of the window. That’s the cause of the weird resolution choice which I completely overlooked. I’ve recorded again in fullscreen mode (1920×1080) and it works perfectly. It loads mp4 and mov files with no problems now. I cant help but think this problem could be avoided with a simple pop up message in SV12 but hey ho…
As for the avi files, I’ve found an option to record the screen using Bandicam with “Sony Vegas output settings” so it saves in a codec that SV12 can understand, bypassing the need to convert them. I thought I’d mention that in case anybody in a similar situation comes along.
WOW! When I went to sleep last night I didn’t expect such a nice solution this morning! Thanks for all the help everyone,I couldn’t have done this without your help!
