I am trying to submit a music video to DMDS for broadcast (MTV etc.) but I’m getting msgs from them like this…”The video ends abruptly and also there is not 2 frames of black at the end of the video which is necessary for broadcasters to know that the video is finished. Additionally the black levels are consistently above 7.5 IRE You will not be able to submit the video until a complete, working video has been uploaded.  Please check your source file and try again.”

    Please help!

Hi, probably not much help but this is a handy url to see what DMDS requirements are: https://promo.dmds.com/uploads
Note their caveat that you need to contact DMDS for the very latest information.
They reference a YouTube video in there that tells you what to do with FCP, sounds like the community needs an SVP video.

As to black levels they seem to be saying your video has blacks that are showing up as grays. SVP has a Black Restore effect but I’ve found that to be difficult to use and get good results

I appreciate your help Mark. I am familiar with their spec sheet and thought I did everything correctly in applying the broadcast filter in Vegas. However, the Quality Check (QC) keeps saying the black levels are too high. I must be doing something wrong. That’s what I need help with.

    Thanks again.

Hi, did the black restore effect not work for you?

It is quite powerful, I think it will easily turn your whole video black 🙁 However if you use it carefully it will restore some black, perhaps enough to get it thru their qa test.

I think the levels adjustment is what you want. Here’s some good tutorials about using the video scopes within Vegas to help with black levels:

    Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the links. I’ll try these out. They finally accepted a file from me but not before I decided to remove all the color grading and submit the video with the flat colors (Technicolor Cinestyle) straight out of the camera. Wasn’t as pretty but it will have to work for broadcast. I see Samsung doing it so why can’t I? LOL.
    Thanks again!
