  • Sony Vegas Pro 10 (64 bit) won’t connect to all collected files

This is an odd one, and hopefully I’m just missing something silly.

I have a “Collected” feature film – collected out of Vegas 9.

I have successfully opened it in Vegas 9 and Vegas 10 several times over the past year. I just got a new computer – nearly identical to the last one I had, but this one has a Sandy Bridge i7.

When I open the project file, Vegas asks me to reconnect every single asset. After the first one, it gives the “there are other assets here, do you want to connect them all” dialog, and I of course select “all”.
But, it still wants me to connect every single asset. There are thousands. I can’t see myself doing that and remaining sane.

Anyway – I have tried the following:
rename the folder structure and drive letter to match exactly what Vegas seems to be asking for – no dice
tried opening off a backup drive – nope
tried a different backup drive – nope
uninstalled, then reinstalled Vegas – still no love.

Someone please tell me you’ve seen this before and have a fix!

    Thanks

    Jason

The file paths are different with your new computer. Can you still ope your projects on your old computer and they work fine? If so, connect an external hard drive to it and save the .veg file to it BUT check “copy media with project”. Close Vegas. Then safely eject the external drive, connect that external drive to your new computer, navigate to it and double click the .veg file you juse made. All the projects files are in that folder and should open fine. Hope this helps, Danny

Unfortunately I do not have the other computer.
Also, this project that I am opening was already saved out as you outlined above. And it’s huge, so borrowing someone’s computer to do it again will tie it up for probably 8-12 hours.

What is odd is that another friend opened this project just fine on a completely different computer a couple weeks ago.

Seems like maybe I did something wrong with my Win7 install or Vegas install or something. I really am at a loss.
