Sony Vegas Monitor Issue
Posted by Robert Engle on October 4, 2015 at 2:48 pmI was using a 24 inch HP HD monitor for Sony Vegas. I just upgraded to the new HP 32 inch Spectre 4K Monitor. When I open Vegas I can work in it without an issue but because my Monitor is bigger everything is smaller and hard to see in Vegas. Specifically text that’s just in the program and all the little icons for working. Any ideas ?????
Thanks Bob
PS. I adjusted my Desktop to a larger size to be more normal but I don’t think this effects anything else.John Rofrano replied 9 years, 2 months ago 7 Members · 24 Replies -

October 4, 2015 at 5:06 pmThe higher the resolution of a monitor, the smaller the text… it’s kind of a physics / math problem and there’s not much you can do to change it.
Your options are:
(1) Right click on the Vegas Pro icon, choose Properties, then choose the Compatibility tab, and check the box that says “[x] Disable display scaling on high dpi settings”. This may or may not help.
(2) Buy a lower resolution monitor for editing and use the higher resolution monitor for payback
(3) Buy glasses 😉
Windows is horrible at supporting resolution other than the native resolution of the monitor. As you have seen, you can make your fonts bigger on your Windows desktop but applications probably won’t display correct and just show larger cut-off words in the same small window. This is Microsoft’s fault for having such a pathetic application programming interface (…and I say this as an application developer who has had to deal with this).
We’ve seen people complain about this problem before and I don’t believe that Vegas Pro will adjust it’s window size. It always uses the native resolution of the monitor so there’s not much you can do about it other than using lower resolution monitor that you can actually read.

October 4, 2015 at 6:25 pmJohn,
Ok the only thing that worked was I went into the control panel under Display and reduced the resolution down a little for the display. Then went into Vegas and it was bigger. Can I simply lower my screen resolution and when I’m finished just go back in and put it back to 4K ? This wont hurt anything I don’t think ??

Yes you can and no it won’t hurt anything. Usually when you run a monitor at less than it’s normal resolution the text is a bit fuzzy but if it looks OK, then you can absolutely change resolutions. I change resolutions on my laptop all the time to adjust to different projectors that we have at work when I’m making presentations so I know it doesn’t hurt anything.

Just hoping in the near future this high resolution scaling process
will be a bit more easier and automatic.Steve Rhoden (Cow Leader)

October 6, 2015 at 12:42 amThanks Steve. me to I cant believe that this is even an issue. I bought a gazillion dollar monitor to make editing more fun and view larger. One good thing is my Photoshop adjusted for some reason and is to scale. Lightroom did not. I have viewed 4K videos from YouTube and this monitor is amazing in every way.

Ok what a pain on the monitor issue but thank you. Ok I did a mini edit on a few video clips and am getting the message shown in the below link. If the link doesn’t work here is what it says. I have Rendered before and I just tried to Render in the same exact format as always. about 35% into rendering I get 2 pop up windows.
One from Vegas saying , ” An error has occurred while creating the media file Cessna Skylane” “The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other programs”.
Then a Windows window saying, ” Close program to prevent information loss. Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs. ”
On my D Drive I have 1 TB Free and on my C Drive about 100 GB Free.
I have a very powerful computer it is not low on memory so what is going on ????
Please help Steve

October 7, 2015 at 12:36 amIts probably something you have on the timeline that is causing
Vegas to be behaving like that ( a corrupt video clip or codec issue or
something like that). Try a basic render with some basic standard files
etc and see if the render still produces this error.
If the problem persists, do a clean Vegas re-install (you wont lose
any of your current Vegas settings).Steve Rhoden (Cow Leader)

Actually Microsoft needs to get with the program! The Mac doesn’t have this problem. Applications should adjust to larger screens automatically simply by using the Windows API. The fact that the Windows API can’t do this is a fault of Microsoft NOT the application developers. The developers that do the extra work to make their application scale are doing a LOT of extra low-level work for something that should be included with the Windows API automatically. Apple has done this work for the developer and all of the applications on the 27″ iMac Retina 5K are very readable. So this is a Windows problem created by Microsoft.
