  • sony vegas freezes when importing from my hd pvr (.mt2s file)

Posted by Colin Fuller on August 27, 2011 at 6:58 pm

    Hi,

I have a serious problem and I have no idea what to do anymore. I bought a hauppauge hd pvr to record things from my sony playstation 3 and when I import the files to sony vegas, I only see 1 frame on the preview box and only hear audio when I play it. When it’s playing and I want to stop/pause/close/click on anything else, sony vegas freezes. I have sony vegas 9 and 10a. There are more much people that can import it without any problem so I think it’s my computer and not sony vegas. I spend so much money on these programs and recording hardware and it doesn’t even work 🙁 I think you know how bad that feels.

It works in windows movie maker but that’s not the program I want to use.

Hope I can get an answer and get this solved because I don’t know what to do anymore..

    Thanks,
    Colin

If you are working with AVCHD you should be using version 10e.

I would download and install again. No need to delete anything. This time make better note of the error message.

Do you have any codec-paks installed on your PC (like K-Lite)? They can cause Vegas to not be able to read some files. Uninstall them if you do and then re-install Vegas

I would recommend that you set our HD PVR to record AVCHD .TS files. These edit much easier in Vegas than the m2ts files that the HD PVR produces.

I have installed the codec pack (someone said that would fix the problem) so I will uninstall them and reinstall vegas and look if I still get the error message.
And I will set it to .TS but is that the same quality? I also have some clips I already recorderd in .MT2S so I try if it works for vegas 10e without codecs pack and if that doesn’t work I think I have to convert them to wmv or something

The error message was about compability, I was able to choose the recommended settings or choose to look for other problems. (i’m dutch so I try to translate it) and I was able to choose from vista service pack, xp service pack etc. and I the computer automatically chose xp service pack 2 and I started the vegas installer and it said: “you need at least windows 7, vista pack 3 or xp pack 3 to run this program” so I did it with xp pack 3 and installed it and now I’m still unable to open it. I can open vegas 9 but I dont even get the loading screen from 10.

The problem is solved, I just updated sony vegas 9 to “e” and now I can import them. Still unable to open 10e though.
Thanks for all the help !

[colin fuller] “And I will set it to .TS but is that the same quality?”

Yes, same quality only in a different video container that is easier for Vegas to edit.

[colin fuller] “I also have some clips I already recorderd in .MT2S so I try if it works for vegas 10e without codecs pack and if that doesn’t work I think I have to convert them to wmv or something”

You might be able to remux them with a utility like tsMuxeR. This will keep the same video quality and just place it into a different container.

You know, I really don’t know what’s going on here. I have an older HD-PVR so maybe there was a firmware upgrade or maybe the capture software was updated or something, but I don’t have these problems. The AVCHD that it captures edits quite nicely for me in Vegas.

One workaround is to convert the footage to some other format outside of Vegas that edits easier.
