    Hi!
I’m not English, so probably there will be a lot of grammatical errors: I’m sorry for this!
Anyway, everytime I try to open an .AVI file with Sony Vegas Pro 11 (64 bit) it says (how you can se from the title):
“An error occurred while opening one or more files.
An error occurred while opening a codec”

This appen opening my camera’s videos. It’s strange, because some time ago Sony Vegas could open that type of files!

I try to find the exact codec of this videos and GSpot says that are “Motion JPEG” videos.
What can I do to fix this problem?
    Thanks!

    Try reinstalling Vegas 11.

Have you installed any codec packs like K-Lite? These can really mess up Vegas Pro and other NLE’s.

I think not. In the “installed-programs” list I found “MyFreeCodec” and I uninstalled it, but I had the same problem.

This could still be the cause. Many codec packs don’t uninstall correctly and leave your PC in an unusable state for video editing. This may have happened to yours. You should never install a codec pack on a video editing PC.

So, now.. What should I do?
I think it’s strange that Vegas has problems with “Motion JPEG” files: a lot of people on Youtube have the same problem, but with Xvid/DviX .avi.

[Antonio Varriale] “So, now.. What should I do? “

I don’t know of any way to recover from a codec pack problem other than to format and do a clean install and never install a codec pack again. I know that’s extremely drastic so I would only do it as a last resort.

Well… Vegas (or any video editor for that matter) is depending on the codecs installed on your PC to decode the video files. When the codecs get messed up, it’s not Vegas’ fault. Try re-installing Vegas to see if it can re-establish it’s own codecs again.

Install Quicktime Movie Player and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
Restart PC,open up Vegas and see if it works this time.

    Or else
    https://www.freemake.com

    Download freemake video converter
Convert to .MP4 OR to .WMV and try reimporting those files into Vegas
MP4 and WMV works like a charm in Vegas

[Abhishek Neogi] “Install Quicktime Movie Player and K-Lite Mega Codec Pack”

While I appreciate that this may seem like a soluton…. it is wise to never install a “Codec Pack” on your video editing PC. It will install cheap low quality codecs that will replace the high quality codecs you paid Sony good money for and it will cause Vegas to fail in unpredictable ways. We have seen this happen to people time, and time, again.

If you need a particular codec, just install that one codec and nothing else.
