I’m in a bit of a jam, not sure what to do
i was previously running a Dell with Windows XP home
had a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.40GH with 3.25 GB of RAM
was running both Vegas 6 and 9 on the machine

Render time for a normal MTS HD file to AVI or MPEG2 on Vegas 9 was pretty much x2 of actual length of footage, so to render a 1 hour video took no more than 2 hours.

i upgraded my computer to an HP Pavilion HPE-490t
    running windows 7 64bit
    vegas 964 bit
    have 16GB of RAM
and the processor is an Inter Core i7
and video card ATI radeon HD 5570

a much more powerful machine by far
when trying to render a simple MTS HD file of a 1hour video the render time is about 20 HOURS ?!?!?!?
makes no sense at all, when i look at CPU usage it shows Vegas is only taking up 18%

i have Norton installed, makes no difference if it’s on of off
    still slow
the files play and vegas itself reacts great with the HD files, it’s just the render, but the time frame is not something that’s acceptable, should i return the machine?

Did you happen to accidentally adjust the opacity slider on the track? If that is off by even a smidgen that will dramatically affect your render times.

You did not mention if you had any fx added to the file, which I assume you know will add to the render time- some more than others.

Have you closed out all the background processes that are not being used as well as any running programs that are not necessary (such as Norton and other computer hogging software programs)? Have you tried a different project with a different file? Has any other programs seemed to run slowly (it could be a configuration issue)? Is your bootup time within a normal range?

i didn’t mention, i’ve been using vegas for 5 years, not a novice, even renders with color correction fx rendered on the old computer at twice the real time (ie 1 hour videos took 2 hours) that was with 4 gigs of RAM, now there’s 16GB.

a simple video MTS file 2 hours long, rendered to AVI in 24 (yes 24) hours….

no FX, no opacity, just a simple render, no background process happening, VEGAS was only program open and it took only 15% of the CPU usage

is there some conflict with Vegas 9 and Win 7? or is it just my machine being faulty? vegas opens quicker and deal with actual video quicker, it’s just the render time that’s out of proportion.

    any help would be wlecomed

Did you check how many threads are selected in the Preferences/Video/ maximum number of rendering threads.. Should be at highest number
