A friend and I are working through a project using Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 which requires a significant amount of video and voice-over recording. The project has gone along without any problems for almost the entire project, but now that we’re nearing the end we’ve run into an issue that neither of us can figure out how to fix.

The audio portion of our uploaded video has dropped out entirely even though the video still plays without any issue (it’s clips from a movie, so the movie plays but without the accompanying sound effects). This is a headache, but we have a way to work around it if it’s something that can’t be fixed.

What’s really slowing us down is now when we record a voice-over section, it will appear on the audio track normally as we record (with the expected peaks/valleys of the audio recording). However, once we finish the portion and click “save file”, the peaks/valleys of the portion we just recorded suddenly disappear, and there is only a flat line in the box for the portion we just recorded. When we play it, there’s no sound at all.

The irritating thing is that if we reboot the program, the issue temporarily goes away- we’re able to record normally without any problems. However, after one or two more recordings, the problem suddenly reappears, and we have to reboot the program once again.

Has anyone run into this problem before? Anyone have ideas on what could be causing it and how we might solve it?

    Thanks!

Sounds like a device driver problem short of a bug in the Vegas software. I’d try looking for newer audio drivers.
