Sony Vegas 6 – Rendering Stops and screen goes black.
Hi! I’m using Sony Vegas version 6.0.* Whenever I try to render a video that is longer than 12 mins. or so at some random point during the rendering process the video preview screen goes black and the elapsed time just keeps ticking up. The approximate time left eventually goes down to 00:00. When it does this and I try to X out of the window, it freezes and just won’t let me. I have to do ctrl/alt/del and click “start task manager” to end the task. When I try a “redo” it just does the same thing over and over again. I don’t know what to do to fix this problem. I have looked everywhere I can think of on the web to find someone else that has this same problem and has found a fix for it but can’t find anything. Can someone on here please help me, I’m desperate!
*Note: I’m just a kid and I have no more money to invest in this so please don’t tell me to get a newer version of Sony Vegas because I can’t afford to do that. That is all Sony Vegas would tell me!

Vegas 6 is only 32-bit so it has a memory limitation of 2GB. Could it be that the render is running out of memory at some point? Try rendering in sections. Make a timeline selection of only 10 minutes and render that using the option to “render loop region only”. Then move the loop over and render the next 10 minutes… then the next. If you can get through the whole video this way, then we know that it isn’t anything to do with your video or corrupt media and it probably has to do with resource limitations like running low on memory.
BTW, if this works… open a new project and drop all of the 10 minutes videos into it end-to-end and see if you can render that as a single video. That might be a work-around for now.

Hey, thanks for getting back with me! I did the “Render Loop Region Only” thing, and now my video has been rendered in two separate areas. But now I have another problem. They are now two separate files on my computer, how do I send them both to YouTube as just one video?

You place them both into a new project timeline and render them again. This render should go a lot faster because all of the FX and other edits have already been applied.
