I am beyond basic editing, and am in the process of dumping my Pinnacle system out of frustration. The Sony Vegas product line appears to be highly stable and feature rich, however I would appreciate some feedback as to whether an average consumer editor needs the power of Vegas 6, or will I be adequately happy with the more limited Movie Studio version? I used Premiere for a long time, but did not enjoy its interface with the DV500 card I have. Tried Studio v9 and v10, but they are not very stable and have many limitations–though good value for the money. I would appreciate feedback from the forum as to whether you would take the leap and buy the Vegas 6 + DVD package? Thanks!

I guess the first question would be: Do you need more than 4 video or audio tracks? Beyond that…

Do you want to use Velocity Envelopes to variably change the speed of clips?

Do you want to leverage the power of scripts? (For example, I’d be LOST without Excalibur)

A comparison can be found here:

If the answer to any of the above is yes, go with the full version.

I also just self-graduated from Pinnacle 9 after 10 arduous months mastering the learning curve. I would be interested in your thoughts and observations as you enter this world. I purchased Vegas Movie Studio + DVD and will continue producing training films for hunters. I hope to stream some video through Flash MX web sites that I create. But I cannot advise on going to Vegas 6. Sorry.
