Sony vegas 12 will not support MOV files

Jim, you probably want to change the password on your DropBox account (next time just right-click and generate a public link) but I got the file 1080p_fiddle.mov and tested it and it plays fine on my Windows 7 64-bit computer with Vegas Pro 12.0 Build 770 64-bit. It’s 1920×0180 16fps ProRes 422 according to Vegas.

So the good news is that the footage that you are getting for your conversions works fine with Vegas Pro. You may want to format and start over with your current Windows PC because something is definitely not right.

the issue you thought it might be is the issue I’m having which is the apple pro res footage shows up on the timeline with audio only and I have the latest version of quicktime. I’m running windows 7 64bit and sony vegas pro 12.

Can you open the footage in the QuickTime Player? Does it play? What does the QuckTime Inspector (Ctrl+I) say video codec is?

They are playing in quick time but still nothing in Vagas. The QuckTime Inspector says the format is “Apple Prores 422(LT), 1920×1080, millions”. These were originally .MTS off a sony camera and changed to apple preres in clip rap.

I just created an Apple Prores 422(LT) file on my Mac with Compressor 4.0 and transferred it to my PC and it played fine Vegas Pro 12.0 so it’s not a problem with Vegas Pro 12.0 not handling Apple Prores 422(LT).

I think you found the problem! It must be the way that ClipWrap created the file because files from Apple Compressor don’t seem to have this problem in Vegas Pro. The ClipWrap web site doesn’t list Vegas Pro as being supported, just Final Cut Pro, FCPX, Avid or Premiere.

You’re welcome. Thanks for letting me know about ClipWrap (in a round about way). I have lots of HDV footage that I’d like to use in FCPX and this looks like the best way to get them into a QuickTime container without transcoding. 😉
