Sony vegas 12 will not support MOV files

Sony vegas 12 will not support MOV files, but play fine in QuickTime and VLC. I downloaded a trial to my other laptop and Vegas 12 imports them and plays ok.

Re-install both Vegas 12 and Quicktime, then see if its sorted out.

Thanks for the reply, Steve. I re-installed both with no help. Even though the files don’t play in Windows Media Player I used it to check the installed codecs. Under the MPEG/DVD section the laptop that works has Cyberlink video codecs while the one that doesn’t had Roxio listed instead. Uninstalled Roxio with no help.

Dont know what else you have installed, but something is causing
a conflict in this situation.

Thanks Steve. I think I am in codec hell. At least I have two laptops to compare. I’m playing with installs and uninstalls to try to fix.

What does MediaInfo (or similar) say is in the MOV files?

Open the file in the QuickTime Player and press Ctrl+I to bring up the Inspector window and it will tell you exactly what codec the video requires. This is what’s missing from your PC. Go find it and install it and DO NOT install any Codec-Paks. Just install the codec you need.

I’m guessing that it may be an MPEG2 file in a QuickTime container and QuickTime doesn’t come with an MPEG2 codec because you must pay royalties. Some software that paid the royalties (probably Cyberlink) installed them for you.
