    Hello all.

I’m needed to create a closed captioning file for my film. I went into the timeline and manually put in the closed captioning myself. Tedious, but I did it.

When I render as an mpeg2 I get the SCC file. I already have the film rendered in different formats, including both 23.976 and 29.97 fps.

Would I need to render in both 23.976 and 29.97 fps to get the necessary SCC file, or, when the file is placed into a timeline, will it automatically go telecline and adjust for the given frame rate?

I’m also asking for using this file with my rendered masters on other NLE’s such as FCP.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks.

I have the file, so the work is done until it’s sent to a distributer to merge with the master file when they clear it for release.

I’m just wondering if I have to render an SCC file in both 23.976 and 29.97 and have to have separarte files for the separate frame rates, or will it telecine automatically on import?

    Thanks again.

Yes you do need to make two SCC files and make sure that you use the correct timecode Drop-Frame or Non-Drop format because all of this information is contained in the SCC timestamp. Using the wrong frame rate will cause the captions to be out of place because frame rate is not part of the SCC file. It has no idea what frame rate was used; it just drops captions at the correct timecode and I’m guessing that it may throw an error if you try and place a 29.97 SCC file in a 23.97 fps project because it will contain “illegal” timecodes for that frame rate.

    Thank you, John.

I re-rendered in 23.976 and have the appropriate SCC file fro 23.976. One for each given framrate.

    Hi,

How were you able to render an .SCC files in 23.98? I’ve been experience the same problem you were. I have a 23.98 NDF video in PP CC and require an .SCC file in the same spec but can only render 29.97in premiere.

    Thanks for your help!
