  • Sony Vegas 10 Uses High Memory and Freezes when Importing Video Files

Posted by Jimmy Summers on June 5, 2011 at 7:03 pm

I have Sony Vegas 10 and a Sony DCR-SX30E video camera. I’ve recorded, edited, rendered and uploaded videos countless times to YouTube with no problem until now.
Whenever I try to import clips of my latest film to Vegas, it freezes and the memory usage shoots up to 9/10 of my RAM. I know not all of the files cause this to happen, because 2/3 of the files load onto Vegas fine.
When I first tried, I selected all of the files at once and imported, which caused Vegas to freeze before they even appeared in the media box.
I then tried importing the files in small batches and I successfully imported all of the files but after a few seconds Vegas just closed itself with no error message and forgets that I have imported videos from the folder. I tried saving the project but when it gets to 94% loaded, it freezes too.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you have a corrupt file or more. Is any of them a different format than the rest? Large stills can cause this.

All of the files are listed as “Movie Clip”s (.mpg) when sorted in order of file type. If some are corrupted how can I find the corrupted ones?

Load one at a time untill one has an error.
