I shot three tests with my new Sony 24p camera. All three in 24p mode. In one of them, i had to render all the footage in FCP but not in the other two. The settings were basically the same. i think the shutter speed may have been on or something, but i can’t understand why i had to render some of the footage and not all of it.

I have the same camera, the shutter speed should not affect it.

Did you lay all clips in the same sequence?
What settings did you capture at?

Further info, you may want to start shooting 24pa and
use cinema tools to do reverse telecine to get 24p until FCP comes
up with an update for the V1U.

shot in hdv 108i 24pSCAN mode the whole time. I just changed exposure and pp1-4 settings stuff like that.
I just exported the tests to quicktime and the clip i rendered came out letterbox but the other two clips came out with that compression-distortion.
I captured them all at the same time as well.
    Very strange.

i don’t really understand cinema tools. Is there a website or something you could send me to so i can get an idea of how to do this reverse telecine. I’m usually able to pick this stuff up quick.

So i dragged the clips that weren’t working properly into the sequence of the clip that was working and sure enough it is fine. The project I opened was originally created for dv but had nothing in it so i just kept(1440×1080 frame size) and HDV 1080i60 compressor gave it that funky distorted look instead of the letterbox. i brought the footage in on the HDV Easy setup for 1080i60.

Jeff, I have been following your threads about the V1U camera as I am about to purchase one, and had a couple of questions. Wondering if I can pick your brain in an email? A simple question that might be answered here in the forum is, how are you capturing your media with this camera? Are you running your camera via firewire into your machine, or did you buy a deck to capture with?

I am really curious to how this camera functions in FCP, as that is what I will be editing the footage with, so any hints, tips, revelations, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
