Just posted this over on the Adobe forums but wanted to see if anyone here has experienced this?…

I have the new Sony PMW-350 XDCAM EX camera – just tried importing a load of footage shot last week – importing the raw MP4 files from the media browser just like EX3 footage that I edit all the time in the same way.

Unfortunately, the video imports but no audio. The clip shows a single mono channel but no audio data in it (i.e. no sound at all).

If I convert to MXF using the Sony Clip Browser, it seems to work OK though.

I guess this footage in it’s native form is just incompatible with PPro – anyone else tried this?

Also, I recently installed Windows 7 64 bit on one of my edit PC’s – this behaves even worse and on playback of the clips will hang. Even the MXF files hang. Not done much troubleshooting yet in W7 though, so there could be something else contributing to the problem.

    Paul.

    Hello,
I seem to be having the exact same problem. Im using windows 7 64bit with adobe premiere pro CS4 up to date version and i have a PMW-350 camera as well. It seems to play perfectly fine in sony clip browser with sound but when i import the footage via premiere pro there is no sound. Have you heared of any possible solutions?

    Thanks
    Andrew

I have the same problem with the native PMW-350 footage. It seems that audio is recorded on channels 3 and 4 and that by default PPro does not ‘see’ these channels. But my guess is that Sony changed something to the file format as I had to update to Sony Clipbrowser 2.6 to actually view the files with that application. Converting to MXF seems the only solution right now.

The Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.2) update fixed problem with four-channel audio from Sony XDCAM EX cameras not being imported. Let us know if it works for you:
