  • Sony minidisc & Vegas 6 synch problem

I was on a video shoot and we had problems with our audio.

Luckily I had a minidisc backup of the audio.

However what I am finding is that it loses sync with the video. The model of the minidisc is a Sony MZ-M100. The video was recorded with a JVC BR-DV6000(u).

    Anyone has experience like this?

    Thanks, James

I too use a Sony minidisk as audio backup. Mine is a different model. Perhaps you can split the audio track where it gets out of sync and slide it into sync each time? Did you play the minidisk and capture it to a wav file in real time?

I actually have about 7 hours from that day.

What I did is use the upload features from the Sony 100 minidisc and it converts the audio to a wave file. It has a USB port out and then has software to do the conversion. So I did not have to play it in real time.

The sync goes out after about 1 minute depending if there is more silence (the recording was of a talk).

    Thanks, James

It may be because Mini Discs use a CD sample rate of 44,100 Hz whereas DV is 48000.

You could try resampling in a program such as Sound Forge or Cool Edit, but anyway, Vegas is a fabulous tool to fix this up – you can split, stretch or shorten easily.

First thing I’d do is synch the beginning, then go to the end and Ctrl drag the edge till the end coincides with the camera audio. This doesn’t necessarily mean that everything in between is IN, but if you check at regular intervals, maybe every 5 mins, you can split and Ctrl drag. I used this method to make a 2 min 40 sec performance synch with a previously recorded 2 min 53 sec track.

I’m in agreement with Peter. Most likely the MiniDisc sample rate is not 48,000. Convert your Minidisc files to 48,000 or hook up to your Mindisc’s analog outputs and record them realtime. That should fix the problem. You could try capturing a few minutes of it and see if that works. Of course a sample rate conversion of your existing audio files would be quicker.

    Regards.
