Sony HVR-A1U pricing, etc…
This is kind of off-topic, but I really value the input of the mods on this particular board. I am getting ready to buy a new camera, and after reading DSE’s review of the HVR-A1U, it seems like logical decision for a first cam. Eventually, I plan on purchasing a full-on pro-cam(Pan HVX-200, Canon, etc…) but for now, I would like to give the HVR-A1U a try. I found this website that has a really good price on the cam. They are selling this cam for $1299. Of course this is by far the cheapest I have found. Does this seem like a scam? If anybody has some insight into this website or pricing of this cam in general, I would really like to hear from you. Also, if anybody has had some hands on time with the cam and worked with the footage in vegas, I would like to hear about those experiences as well. Lastly, does anybody know if this cam supports DTE for use with a firestore?
As I said before, Gary and Ed have both been helpful to me with past problems, and I truly value your input. I welcome all insight and comments. Thanx guys.

Sure does. With a lifetime rating of 0.72, I wouldn’t go anywhere near this outfit.

In the future if you have a question about a seller, check out http://www.ResellerRatings.com and look up the company. You can read reviews from customers about sellers. USAphotonation have a VERY bad rating from about ALL of the reviewers. I called them out of curiosity when I was in the market for my VX2100. I think their price at the time was $1000 or less. I already knew I wasn’t gonna order anything from them after reading the reviews, but I just wanted to see what they had to say. The company is a joke and a scam.

I appreciate all the input guys. I figured it was a scam. I mean when I called them asking about it, the guy was like “So you wanna buy it or what?” It sounded like a 16 year old sitting on the back of a truck. The reason i asked here, was because of my other questions “hands on time…”

B&H offers this camera a $2,499 (you have to ask for that price via email; listed price is $2,699).
In addition, as of Jan 15, B&H tells me that Sony will have a $500 mail-in rebate on the camera, making your final price $1,999. That’s probably the best legitimate deal you’ll find.

Yea, I just found that too. Thanks Doug. I still would like to hear some impressions if anybody has had some hands on time with the cam. Also, as I asked in my first post, does anybody know if it supports DTE(firestore)?
