  • Sony HDR-CX150 and sony video capture for Vegas

I have been using Sony Vegas 9 for some time with my old JVC camera and it had always worked great. Well I steeped up and bought a new HD camera (Sone HDR-CX150) and really like it with the short time I have had it.

So here is the problem. Trying to use Sony Video Capture (6.0e build 1000) to import the video when I click HDV I am unable to even show the camera. I have loaded the software that came with the camera and I can communicate with it perfectly fine.

So is there anything I am missing using Sony Video Capture or will I no longer be able to use it?

What you are missing is the Sony HDR-CX150 is a tapeless camera and therefore there is no “capture”. In Vegas Pro 9.0, use View | Device Explorer (Ctrl+Alt+7) to explore the video from the camera and copy it to your PC.

    Thank you john.

I was under the impression there would be quality differences between dragging the file and actually importing it Via the tool..

I don’t know where you got that impression but the Device Explorer is just a file copy. Both dragging from the drive and use the Device Explorer are a bit-for-bit copy of the file. Same file, both ways. In fact, I believe the Device Explorer will compensate for a large file being broken by the FAT32 limitation of memory cards and it will stitch it back together for you. So it is best to use the Device Explorer rather than dragging the files.
