    Hi Everyone,

So I’m still really new to the whole world of HD and could use some advice for the best workflow…

I have the Sony HDR-CX100 which shoots 1080i AVCHD. So far I’ve been bringing it in using log and transfer and I believe it’s coming in as Pro-Res 422 1920×1080 29.97 frames per second (not sure if the pro-res version is i or p)

I have a FAIRLY recent MacBook Pro, but HD video does struggle on it, so in the past I’ve been creating SD projects and dropping in the HD footage. Final Cut scales my 1080p pro-res files down to fit in the SD project and things generally work okay…

However my friend told me it would be wiser to create “SD” proxies in Compressor, edit using those, and then simply reconnect the HD versions.

I decided on my latest project to give that a shot, but I think I might have blew it, mostly because my SD proxies ended up being named differently (compressor appended NTSC-DV-Anamorphic to the end of each file name).

Could someone help to better explain the proper workflow that I should be using to do this? Whats the easiest way to edit entirely in SD and then when I’m ready to export switch everything over to HD?

Also, is there a good easy setup/sequence settings for these ORIGINAL files that I bring in (for when I switch over to HD)? There appear to be a couple of pro-res ones but there’s so many different options I’m never sure which one to pick (and also no matter what things tend to add a “shift fields” plugin that I have to remove every time when I bring in my original SD footage for the HD output).

Hopefully this all makes sense, and someone can help clarify what I should be doing.

Also, I should probably mention I’m working with FCS 3.
