In a bit of a big jam here heres the issue:

i got some HDCAM tapes that were shot with the sony-f900. I am trying to capture them and having some difficulties. The tapes came back with the 30p mark checked off on the label of the tape (the deck also says 30p>>1080 as read from the tape) so i set the deck frequency to 29.97Psf and it plays fine. but when i capture the video and then check out the results the video plays super fast and the audio is obviously way out of sync… im not entirely sure what capture presets to use on my final cut. im capturing through my aja card on my apple G5 btw. also im trying to capture all onto a g-raid 3TB hooked up firewire 800. so anyways i dont exactly see the perfect capture settings out of my aja options in capture preset. any ideas?? i need help! sorry im just starting out and am trying to learn all the frame rates and frame sized and shooting modes but not there yet…

    please help!

Be aware that 30p and 2997psf are two wholly separate entities. Though 30p is a very niche format: 99% of the time it’s probably just sloppy notation and the tape is actually 2997psf.

Are you telling your AJA card (Kona??) to capture 1080p30? And I assume you’re going to a compressed format ala ProRes that can work over FW800?

well the deck says the tape is “30p>>1080” and i would try capturing it in 30p but in final cut there is no capture settings for 30p… ?????

    Reinstall your Kona Driver.

the progressive Integer frame rates (24.0/ 30) are not installed by default but the settings are available as an option when you install the drivers.

pretty sure its possible on the 900 to shoot at 30.000 instead of 29.97. it certainly has settings for 23.976 and 24.000. I do dearly hope they didn’t actually shoot at 30.000

what card are you using to capture with ? of its running out of sync by 2X sounds like your card is set to 59.94 / 60.00… which would also mean 720 most likely and down converting the 1080 to 720… or something wierd along those lines
