Sony F55 RAW on Vegas 12
Posted by Will Kee on August 13, 2013 at 4:29 pmDoes anyone know if Sony Vegas Pro 12 (build 670) can edit RAW 4k F55 footage?

August 15, 2013 at 6:01 amHi Will-here is a link to the latest workflows as of April. I would continue to check with Sony because the cameras are new and it seems that camera manufacturers are leaning towards more frequent firmware updates then we have seen in the past. (Kind of RED style)

August 15, 2013 at 8:07 amThanks for the reply, Colin. I would have thought that Sony Vegas would be one of the first editing programs to edit RAW Sony F55 footage!

August 16, 2013 at 8:51 pmI think there are some definite codec issues because from what I have seen you need a $200 plugin to get the RAW footage into AVID and Premiere. So it’s not a drag and drop on the timeline workflow. The original Blackmagic camera has the RAW workflow pretty seamless because of the included Davinci Resolve software.
I generally wait until there are 5-6 serious shoots done with the camera-then I call the DOP and ask questions. Sometimes the local Sony reps or rental houses will have info on who has actually shot a pro project with the camera. There is no substitute for talking with someone who has had to use the camera under pressure. Hope this helps.

August 16, 2013 at 10:56 pmWe have an F55 here at Pinewood and I’ve played around with it a bit. I’ve been losely involved in a few professional shoots with the F55, but when it comes to workflow, Vegas seems to be redundant (based on conversations with many DIT’s and camera people).
I’m left wondering why Vegas can edit RAW r3d footage and not raw f55 footage, but then again, it’s very very early days for the camera.
