    howdy
I have recently purchased an XDCAM VTR – HD1500
I want to transfer my EX files in their BPAV folders onto the XDCAM 50GB discs
I am doing this for archive purposes

When I attempt to drag them over into the User Data folder (of the disc on the desktop) it tells me I dont have permission ???

can someone advise the next steps

    thanks a lot
    Mick

This should not be a problem. What version FAM driver are you running? Are you able to copy other types of files to USER DATA or GENERAL (a PDF or doc, for example)? If you copy one file at a time vs multiple files do you see any difference in behavior?

You should use Sony’s XDCAM BROWSER software to transfer your clips. That’s the only way your copied clips will become “real” xdcam hd files.

    thanks
I found the CD that came with the VTR and I installed the FAM driver software
and Presto it allowed me to drag and drop into the USER DATA folder on an XDCAM HD disk

So I have started dragging my EX files (in their BPAV folders) on XDCAM disks, allowing me to have them on the shelf as disks – NOT RELYING ON STORING THEM ON HARD DRIVES –

However I have learnt that it wont let me drag lots of large files at once ??? There is some reference to this in the VTR manual. So as long as i only drag a small amount of files across it is working fine.
Yes, it is labor intensive but it is giving me piece of mind having mt EX data stored on the shelf as disks

My editor is VERY happy because he knows where to find the footage,

any ideas on why I cant seem to drag large file quantities ??
    thanks
