Sony DVW-500p error 03
I have an error 03 message coming up on our Sony DVW-500p Digibeta deck, which I can’t get rid of. To give you a little background on this, the deck has been in storage for about 2 years in a fairly cold environment. I recently tried to play a tape in it, and it initially played OK, but when I stopped playback and ejected the tape, it was partially chewed, and the deck came up with the error 03 code. I brought the deck back into a warm environment, and left it to acclimatise for 24 hours, but the message still persists whenever I try to play a tape. The only way of ejecting the tape is then to switch the deck off, power it back on, and hold down eject immediately.
Has anyone experienced this behaviour, or error message before, with a Sony deck like this?

“Eating Tapes is generally caused by a defective reel motor or a stuck guide in the tape path. Defective reel motors are always replaced as a set of two. Eating tapes is often associated with error 1,2,3,4,5.”
