Sony DVD Architect 5b
I’m trying to make a DVD with this program and for some reason the DVD sets up just fine, burns just fine, but no matter what DVD player I put it in (even one from Sony) it doesn’t play. The sony one says “Cannot play this disk” and the other one gave a similar error. I’ve had this happen on other programs I’ve used before but I’m new to SDVDA… and I’m wondering if there’s a way to fix this.

What is the brand name of your DVDs, and what burning speed are you using?

Also make sure that you are not making a Blu-ray formatted disc and trying to play it on a regular DVD player. That will not work. Your DVD Architect project properties must be set for DVD in order to play on a DVD player.

And as far as I can tell it’s set up to write DVD not Blu-Ray.

That’s three reasons why it’s probably not working:
- Memorex is some of the worst media you can buy. Get good Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media (not the “value” line).
- RW is the least compatible. Lots of players cannot play read write discs because the media is not as reflective because it’s erasable. Don’t use RW media unless your DVD player specifically states that it supports it.
- +RW is less compatible than -RW. I would never use +RW media.
So use good Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DVD-R discs and I think you’ll see a difference.

Both of my DVD players do play +RW disks and have never had any problem with Memorex +RW disks as it’s what I always buy because it’s the only thing I can find that has more than 10 disks per package.
I’ve had to switch from Sonic MyDVD Suite which has always worked fine for my DVD players but I bought a new PC (windows 7) and now my Sonic MyDVD suite won’t work on it. No matter how I ‘troubleshoot compatability’ or ‘run as administrator’ just keeps saying Current Operating System is Unsupported or something like that.
SO I’m having to use this new program that seems unable to write my disks properly -Regardless of the fact that my DVD player runs my disks fine when they were being written with Sonic MyDVD Suite on Windows XP.

If you don’t use high quality disks, you can’t blame the software when your disks do not work. The name of the game is high quality media. You cannot try to minimize media costs, and obtain good results. You might want to check into Tiger Direct for TY media in quantity packages. I find large cylinders of Verbatim DVD-R disks at Sam’s Club.
