So, I’ve been experimenting with this codec a bit and really like the quality. NOTE: I am experimenting on Vegas Pro 10.c

Our 2 person subjective opinion of Sony AVC vs. MainConcept is that Sony AVC provides much higher quality given the same (similar) settings. We see less blocking on blacks/shadows and higher quality when zooming in on faces. In addition, it is 3x faster encoding (I have an Intel i7 920 with 12MB RAM).

However, there are a number of very odd issues. For example, using Sony AVC, I selected Main Profile and (what I thought was) Constant 4,000,000 bps.

Here is my MediaInfo from the output file. It notes High Profile (High@L4.0) and the bitrate is Variable.

Has anyone else experimented with Sony AVC?
