SPECIFICALLY Final Cut Pro editors? That’s funny.

    [Shane Ross] “That’s funny.”

Agreed. I don’t think the post has much credibility. It’s just more website space filler. But, that rate is rather low, considering it’s about the “gig economy”. That presumes the FCPX editor is also supplying his/her own gear and software and maybe even working space.

    I guess that’s one opinion.

And yes, that rate is low, but…basically if you average 24 hours a week and 44 weeks a year, you are at just under $40k. Of course cost of gear, healthcare, etc…

This is where that old school traditional mainstream media still serves a vital role. A publication like the New York times or The Washington Post would carry a lot more weight and legitimacy. It also would greatly help if the article cited real statistical sources for these conclusions.

    i7-5820k CPU
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
    Adobe CC 2018

Just wonder if the reaction would be the same if that same list had placed
Adobe Premiere Pro Editor, or AVID Media Composer editor…in the same position?

Would we all react the same?

It’s an interesting exercise in separating preconception from tonality.

    FWIW.

Yes and doubly so from this forum in particular.

These days in the states that is being debated in some quarters….

That Rate, and I’m in LA, is what people will pay for work. It’s scary. The democratization of the tools, in this case editing software (FCPX, Premiere Pro, etc) makes it cheap to enter the market so if you have the software, by golly, you’re an editor.

People don’t want to pay for skills or talent. Just the cheapest rate. I once went for an interview and asked the producer ‘what especially did you like about my work?’ The response: ‘I haven’t seen your work yet. What’s your rate?’

Definitely low 1998 rates for sure! But then I read the bizarre description and thought it was high. ☺

Yup, I would have said the same thing.
