Some pan/crop/zoom/resolution questions
Hi – I have some questions about panning/cropping/rotating.
I’m using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 (the trial version right now, not sure if it is any different).
I am trying to output a 1280×720 project. My source footage is larger at ~1500×1080. I do not want it scaled down, however – I want it at the same scale, just cropped. However, first I want to apply a bunch of rotation fixes and pans to it.
So: 1500×1080 source -> rotate fix -> pan fix -> crop -> 1280×720 output.
My rotate fixes are uncorrelated with the pan fixes, so ideally I want separate keyframes for angle and position in the event pan/crop window (e.g. I might want rotation keyframes on points A, D, and F, and panning keyframes only at B and E), but as far as I can tell, you can’t do that in Movie Studio. (or am I wrong? If you can, that solves my whole problem).
So my next try was to do the rotation fixes in the event pan/zoom window and to use “Track Motion” to do the pan fix afterwards. However, somewhere between the event pan/zoom and the track motion, the footage gets cropped to 1280×720, so I can’t pan up to expose more of my existing footage below.
1500×1080 -> rotate fix via event pan/zoom -> crop 1280×720 -> pan fix -> missing areas of footage.
Is there another way to layer multiple pan/crop fixes on top of each other? i.e., is there any way to to an “event pan/crop” which just does a rotation and then do an “event pan/crop” which just does a pan? Can I do an event pan/crop on an event, group the event with something and do another event pan/crop on the whole group? etc.?
The only way I’ve found that works so far is to do only the rotation fix and render out the video at 1500×1080, and then make an entirely new vegas project (this one at 1280×720), import the new 1500×1080 video and do the pan/crop fix in that one. This is, obviously, clumsy.
project 1: 1500×1080 -> rotate fix via event pan/crop -> 1500×1080 temp movie
project 2: 1500×1080 temp movie – > pan fix & crop vid event pan/crop -> 1280×720 output.Thanks,
Ken
