some P2 media does not appear on the media tool
Posted by Taina on July 17, 2006 at 6:25 pmhello
I’ve just upgraded my Mac G5’s avid to the new version 5.5 to edit the material that I shot using P2 cards. I copied all of the media to a LaCie external HD and did the procedures to mount it on the avid. I created the bin Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 and so on… But some media doesn’t appear on the media tool and they are on the HD.
What should I do?thanks

July 17, 2006 at 6:32 pmSince no other answers seem forthcoming, rename the folder on the ext drive to something arbitary, create some media from within mc, title tool or mixdown, whatever and specificy the ext drive as the target drive, mc should now create a correctly named folder, drag the media off the card or the old folder into the new media files folder.
Another poff method is to just drag and drop directly from the p2 into a bin having pre checked your import settings.

July 18, 2006 at 12:23 pmif I recall correctly, media pulled directly into a media folder from a camera card, p2/firestore etc has no project heading, imorting via a project bin adds this info, since you have to specifiy which projects you are searching within mediatool this can highlight this problem!

July 18, 2006 at 2:02 pmI shot on P2 cards and then tranferred it to a LaCie ExternalDriver.
have you got a clue?
Can be the ownership and permission of the external HD?

July 18, 2006 at 2:36 pmHere is a situation I ran into a few weeks ago, maybe this will help you out. We were shooting on an HVX200 into a Firestore (FS-1). We found that, for example, lets say we only shot 10 minutes of footage (call them “minutes_1-10”). If we then formatted or deleted those files from the firestore and shot another ten minutes (call them “minutes_11-20”), we were not able to use those 2 sets of files (the two 10 minute chunks) in the same Avid project.
We would have problems ranging from clips not appearing in the Media Tool, to even the name of a clip pointing to completely wrong footage. The only thing we could deduce was that some sort of meta-data in the mxf files was being re-written each time the Firestore was emptied. When those clips were brought into Avid, there was overlapping info between files and everything went downhill from there.
So, the only way we have been able work with the footage has been to create totally seperate Avid Project for each time we formatted the firestore and started recording new. Not only that, but we also have to have a seperate Avid MedieFiles folder for each time as well, and need to continually rename as we open each project accordingly (just so that Avid doesn’t read the files in the same project).
Luckily we do not need to use all the clips in the same project, otherwise I think we would have trouble.
I emailed Focus Enhancements about this and they said they new about a problem and were working on it.
In any case, if anyone else has had this problem, did you figure out how to fix it?
