Some of my P2 clips don’t import in FCP

i’m just learning how to use my hvx200 with a firestore 100 and shot some stuff today, some long takes, and many of my clips are spanned. trying to log and transfer them into final cut pro (latest version) and it won’t let me. my other shorter clips are going in fine, but not my longer spanned clips. (a) how can i import the spanned clips to edit in fc ? (b) is there anyway i can keep my firestore from spanning these clips?
thank you so so much! leaving for a video shoot out of state tomorrow and need to have this solved before hand if at all possible!

Is your scratch drive formatted for a PC? You are better off with formatting for a Mac. If you can’t then you can only capture segments around 4GB. Try capturing in segments.

You can’t stop the Firestore from spanning the clips…nor can you stop P2 cards from doing this. The drive format required for recording P2 is an offshoot of Fat32, and that has a 4GB limit. So there will always be spanning of long clips.
Try suggestions from my stock answer:
#36 – One or More P2 files failed to import.

Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don’t like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)…the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window…is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO…in the P2 Import window…in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO…make sure your file names aren’t too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.
ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn’t have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.

First off, never shoot in P2 mode on the FS100. Always shoot in Quicktime mode and you will never ever have this problem. You just drag the QT FS clips into a FCP Bin and start editing, no “log and transfer” step ever needed. This is one of the many advantages of using the FS versus P2 cards in the first place…
