  • Some kind of junk video on preview window

    Hey guys,

I just started using Cineform Neoscene to capture footage from my Canon Vixia HV30 to take 24fps footage out of the 60i wrapper. I’m still on the trial version.

Everything basically works fine and I’ve rendered video without any problems. My issue is that in the preview window there is a black bar on the right side, and, almost like an audio meter, has bars of varying colors (I’ve seen white, people, and greenish/yellow/reds) jumping up and down and running through this small black bar on the right. It’s annoying.

It only happens when the preview window is set to Preview: Auto or Draft: Auto or Quarter. At any higher setting it goes away.

Does anyone know how to do away with this? I like to keep the preview quality low so I don’t tax my computer unless I want to see something in detail.

Attached are two screencaps of what I’m seeing. Notice the bar on the right.

    Hi there!

I get this also, particularly in ‘Draft’ quality, but never as extreme as that. Usually just a black blur from the empty space outside of the preview frame.

If you shot on tape there are sometimes alignment problems and you lose a column of like 5 pixels at the side.

If it isn’t in your output or ‘full’ previews, you might just have to try and ignore it.

Does this appear when you watch the footage in other media players?
Does it disappear when you crop in Event Pan/Crop?

I saw that a long time ago and I am wracking my brain to recall what the fix was. What version of Vegas are you using?

    I’m using Vegas 9.

I used the pan and crop function and it went away when I zoomed in on the picture.

I feel like I have deja vu and this is all oddly familiar, like the colors on the bars are supposed to mark something.

I tried viewing footage that I shot in 30p in it by running it through Cineform to make it 24fps, and I get the same result.

And, any footage that I set to 24fps (actually 23.976) gets me the black bar on the right side. Running it through Cineform Neoscene seems to put those sort of sound meter bars on the side.

    That’s it!

It’s a CineForm problem. From their tech support:

“i heard back from engineers about the vegas playback issue. i’m told that it only happens on quarter res HD or half res SD files. Sinces its just a preview only issue in Vegas, it has not been prioritized on our fix it list… it will get addressed at some point though. for now, switch to full res to see the correct image.”

    I just stopped using Cineform…..

Thanks Steve. I’ll just have to live with it then.
