I’ve been working with FCS3 across two machines since last Monday, but have just started to have problems while working on my MacBook Pro. And no, trashing the prefs doesn’t help in either case.

Firstly with Motion 4 – hovering anywhere near the File or the Help menu causes instant beachball of death. (Fortunately I know all the File shortcuts and more importantly I know what a waste of time it now is going anywhere near the HTML manual ;-))

Secondly with FCP7 – while loading it gets all the way to profiling RT Extreme and crashes out each time.

The FCS2 versions on my other drive still work just fine.

Hopefully a reinstall might clean things up, but any other ideas most welcome. Thanks.

I have experienced none of the issues you have.

How did you do the upgrade?

Did you just install it on top of the old one? That’s not the best way to do it.

The best way is to erase the system drive, install a clean OS and then install FCS clean.

The second best way is to download FCP Remover and compleatly remove the old version of FCS and then install the new version clean.

Thanks, Zane. I did as you say just install over the old one which has always worked in the past, but will definitely try your more rigorous way.

I used the FCP Remover method and things have been fine.

I plan on doing a complete erase of the OS when I move to Snow Leopard.

I did the quick and easy instal over FCS2 on my MBP and am not experiencing any trouble at all. Have opened, captured to, and printed from FCP, animated GFX in motion using all the new bells and whistles, and fired up a huge audio mix in STP without issue.

Regardless, Once I close my current projects and am confident there aren’t any serious issues with FCS (2009) I will do a complete re-install on my tower.

I have to say I had no problems for a week and then this started to crop up on my MacBook Pro only not my tower. Am very glad I kept FCS 2 going as a fallback. I’ll now definitely wait for the first update/bug fix before using FCS3 in anger.

Well is it a upgrade/fix that you really need? It sounds like some others that responded were not having the same issues. Maybe you should consider a process of elimination or just doing a clean install. If everyone were having that problem, then I could see your point.
