  • Soloing track sometimes speeds timeline playback

I’ve been meaning to ask this for awhile, and have yet to find anything in Google-land to explain this issue.

I’ve noticed on occasion that some DV and/or HD projects, the timeline playback is extremely slow even if I’ve rendered the footage to a new track (placed at the top level). I usually check to make sure that the clip and track opacity is at 100% and that the clips interlacing/deinterlacing settings match the project since both of those I realize could cause Vegas to recompress/rerender.

I stumbled upon an instance where I simply soloed that new track and playback was unhindered as you’d expect. But when I turn off the soloing of that track, it plays back as if Vegas is calculating all the fx in the lower tracks eventhough it should be ‘invisible’ to Vegas; this isn’t right. This also doesn’t happen all the time. In fact, it seems to happen in larger projects where many clips/tracks have their own fx/color adjustments, but then again if there are no FX, the playback wouldn’t be bogged anyways.

I seem to recall it happening in Vegas 8 and 9, although I’m not sure about before that.

What is going on here? Has anyone noticed this? Is this a bug?
