Hello- I have an animated mask shape created out of several mask paths…

I would like to fill this mask with a picture file that is fixed to the mask as it moves… so if the mask grows- I would like the picture within it, to grow as well.

Normally the mask will simply reveal what is beneath it, but I would like to somehow lock what is beneath it, to the mask geometry. I hope I am being clear. Is this possible?

    Hi Steve,

A little more information would help.

As I understand it now, you have masked out something (like maybe a human figure?). And now you want this figure to be animated. If that’s the case than the puppet tool would be your weapon of choice.
Pre compose your masked figure and in the master comp add the puppet tool effect to the precomposed figure.

If this is really not what you intend, please give some more clues!

    Cheers,
    Wieger

You’re right that masks don’t have any such functionality built-in.
You might be able to accomplish something like this with expressions.
And I have a feeling that if this is possible, it might involve the Reshape effect, which is a warping tool that utilizes masks. You might be able, via expressions, to link a mask in one comp to the mask used in the reshape effect in another comp.
You might want to pose this question in the Expressions forum.
