Software FRC in FCP 5 – clips need to be in project folder, not bins, to convert
Hi All,
I spent a few hours batch logging and capturing a music video we shot at 60FPS and when I went to convert the files using the built in frame rate converter I found that nothing would happen, and the plugin would be greyed out. I had done a test with one file before I batch captured and that worked fine. Moving a batch captured clip from the bin that I had captured in, to the root folder of the project re-enabled the plugin. So it seems that the software FRC is only able to work on files in the top level project folder.
Hope that helps anyone else who may come across this. Otherwise the Firewire capture from the 1200 deck worked beautifully. I’ve also tested recompressing using media manager to output file as Blackmagic HD 10bit into After Effects for grading and the results are excellent.

I actually move all the clips off to a separate project, make all the converts there, then bring the converted clips back into the main project.
