Soft/noisy AE Output
Hey – I’m bringing in footage (as uncompressed quicktimes), comping it and exporting as uncompressed quicktimes.
When the footage is viewed elsewhere it is apparently ‘soft’ or noisy compared to the source footage. Without a 10 bit system what should I export as to get a better result ? How (if at all) dependant is the output on the hardware?
Any clues as to why the loss in quality ?
One odd thing – the footage that is imported is supposedly progressive but to get it looking any good I have to interpret it for upper field first…Your help would be greatly appreciated. A whole in my knowledge as don’t usually work with shot video footage.

I agree with Dave on this one. But based on what you HAVE said, I would bet that the “progressive” footage you received is actually pulldown-based. For example, a lot of 24p footage is actually 29.97fps with pulldown to make apps think it’s 24 progressive frames. Rather than manually setting it for upper fields first, set that to “none” and use the “guess pulldown” option. This may clear things up a bit.
