  • So why is PPro CS4 shrinking my video when I render raw?

I’ve already knocked this one back and forth for a few hours with no success. Every time I render my (already raw) video as raw, what PPro does is shrink it down (scale it down, losing resolution) by about 30%, making the rest of the originally-filled frame black. So obviously when I import the result back into PPro, I got this nice, shrunken video image with a giant black border.

The whole purpose of this render-as-raw exercise was to finally pin down what settings work to produce a file which, when imported back into PPro, result in a YC waveform identical to what I started with. And incidentally, it looks like PPro has no such output capability; no matter how raw it is or how many bits you throw at it, what you started with is never faithfully reproduced.

Sequence settings AND source file properties should match, especially resolution. You can undo the preference to scale media to fit screen, by right clicking on the clip in the timeline and deselecting “Scale to frame size”.

You can also export as Microsoft uncompressed .avi in either 24 bit or 32 bit if you have an alpha channel.
