So way off topic question
I figured to ask here since most of you have done tv commercial producing at some stages in your life.
Up here in Canada, we have the basic fees for actors plus the fees for the tv cycle e.g. 13 week costs $$ for use.
But New Media costs is through the roof for a full year all platforms fee.
Is this the same in other countries?I hope I made sense.

It’s definitely been changing. At first it was “broadcast” and “web” with web being significantly cheaper. Now, as you mention, web can start to approach (but certainly
not overtake) broadcast fees depending on where it’s played and how. We get questions like, is it a purchased pre-roll or a channel? YouTube or Vimeo? How many socials? Any POS/in-store involved? And every agency has a little different formula with some still adhering to the web as “web”. -

It has changed a lot since web’s infancy.
Do all agencies/clients pay this?
Or do they take a chance and wait for lawyers to call.

We call for quotes, and book talent with those terms. We don’t stray outside of it, and if we need to add other outlets, we call the talent agency back to negotiate the usage.
I have no idea what other people do, I’m sure it varies along with the rates.
We have received calls before where a client is still running ads after the terms have ended and we have to renogtiate or the client pulls the ad. (We never have anything to do with the media buy).
We’ve also received quotes for crap loads of money for talent and eventually negotiated down to our client’s budget. At the very least, I’d start there.

That sounds interesting.
I think we will give that a try.
To be honest, its time like this where we clients cut back and say “instead of three actors, lets just go with one”.
That, of course, throws me back to the drawing (story) board (pardon the pun).

I’d knock harder on the talent agent first.
And if that actor doesn’t work, they may have one that will work for less money.
