Hi – I’m on Vegas 11 64B working on I7 2600 8 core with 16G – just installed the latest Vegas patch, but this was going on before.

Problem: Vegas crashes on me about every 7-10 minutes of working. Just stops and the little window comes up that indicates a crash saying reason not determined and asks if I want to send a report.

There’s no one project, effect, action, process, or anything that I can determine that causes this. Seems to happen most often, but not always, when I start playback after doing something – but also when rendering, working with a FX, or doing most anything. Sometimes it seems to crash every few minutes … sometimes I can go 20-30 minutes and it works fine.

It doesn’t seem to be related to the complexity of a project or wht I;m doing anything. I turned off autosave at one point, and that seemed to help some. Also – saving often manually seems to help. These days I save about every 2-3 actions, which makes it at least possible to work after it crashes … but often if I forget to save for a bit … a crash will happen.

Don’t seem to have any other issues with computer, though 90% of what I do with it is Vegas.

Question: Are there any settings I ought to be looking at here? This seems to have gotten worse in last couple months, though I can’t trace it to any “Event” that happened. Any other thoughts?

    TIA!

The most common problem is in the Preferences, the “Video” tab, set the “Dynamic RAM Preview max” to 0. By default this has some value and lots of crashes go away when set to 0.

Hi Ken, have you tried it with the the GPU option un-ticked?

    Hi Ken,
Very recognizable, if not exactly the same. Problems started with VP11. I have the same problems on another PC that is substantially identical. I tried everything, including: clean boot, BIOS settings, compatibility mode (Run setting), reinstall, disabling (all) codecs etc..

    System specifications:
    – Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-Extreme
    – CPU: i7-920
    – Memory 12GB
    – Video card: HD5750 (Catalyst 12.8)
    – Windows 7 64 bit

I intend to try it with a complete new system setup, but I look up against the effort it will take.

B.t.w what are your system specifications?

Thought I’d give an update on this one. I tired several things, but lowering my RAM for Dynamic RAM Preview seems to really have helped a lot. I changed it from 2048 down to 1500. I didn’t think 2048 would be a problem with 16G total, but either it’s a big coincidence or that made the difference. It has not totally cured the problem, but far fewer crashes.
