    Hi there

This has bothered me for sometime now and I thought I would ask as its starting to annoy me 🙂

When I go to Capture in FCP (any version) my SDI monitor comes up with “Snow” on black. I can capture the footage fine and when I check the capture it doesn’t have the Snow, so its only effecting the SDI monitor out on the Decklink HD.

    Why is this happerning?
Why is my SDI monitor out from my DecklinkHD creating this snow when I capture?

    Can it be fixed?

    Thanks
    Rory

i dont use decklink hd but i got the same trouble with inferno hd out. is it a hd or downconverted sd output on your card and do you use a hd or sd sdi monitor? sounds like your card switches from hd to sd or sd to hd out during record. but i m not sure…..

    Hey Norman

I’m using a SD SDI monitor. The snow appears over the footage while being captured. If I open the Capture window in FCP and then close it, repeat this a few times it eventually doesn’t have Snow.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Rory

    Hi Rory,

I don’t know what’s causing this but it does sound like software given you can make the problem go away. I would suggest that you use one of the two currently recommended systems, ie:

  • Mac OS X 10.3.8, QuickTime 6.5.2, Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and DeckLink 4.8 or
  • Mac OS X 10.4.2, QuickTime 7.0.1, Final Cut Pro HD 5.0.2 and DeckLink 5.0
  • Download the latest (v4.8 or v5.0) DeckLink Macintosh installer from our web site and use its Uninstaller. Then install the new drivers.

If the problem still continues, quit from Final Cut Pro HD and try using Blackmagic Deck Control for your capture. Does it suffer from the same problems with some snow on the monitoring output during capture?
