  • SMOOTH rotation of camera around object, 360 degrees

Posted by Evan Seitz on July 10, 2010 at 2:00 am

I’ve got a camera that I need to keyframe moving in a perfect circle around an object. I’ve got it set up as an object rotation and I’ve put the object in the panel in the camera menu.

And when I actually rotate without keyframing – it’s perfect. But when I add key frames for the 180 degree mark (behind the object) – the camera goes in a crazy pattern before getting to the keyframe and NOT a perfect circle.

Then, when I keyframe out at the 45 degree mark AND the 180 degree mark – the camera goes in a sharp line to each keyframe and still not a perfect circle arc.

I can’t use a circle spline either because at the end of the 360 degree animation I need the camera to zoom in on the object in a peculiar way.

Please help and thank you so much in advance!

If I understand correctly, the way I’ve done this in the past is to put all the objects I want the camera to go around in a null. I keep the camera still and rotate the null. This offers you the ability to then zoom or move the camera in at the end or whenever you need it…

    Hope that helps.

Wow – thanks so much! That worked!! Fantastic out of the box thinking. Really appreciate it. 🙂
