  Small picture in canvas window

  I can’t figure out why when I import something as 1080i, it comes in as 720p, and it’s always small in the canvas window, as in you have to go to image wireframe and stretch it out to make it fit. The other problem is that FCP 5.1.4 only has an option to import as 1080p, all the footage was shot in 1080i, so when my camera (JVC GY-HD110U) to 1080i, and FCP is set to 1080p, it shows up in my canvas window as a small 720p. What’s the deal?
