Slow/Crippling project load times in shared/NAS environment
We have a small team of editors working together on a NAS unit, QNAP/10GbE in Premiere Pro 2020 on Windows 10. The projects are pretty simple, no dynamic links or complicated plugins.
When an editor grabs another editors project in the NAS, shared /Projects volume, they typically duplicate the .pproj and append a new _version# to it, it takes FOREVER to load, over an hour, sometimes not loading at all. Projects and Media are all mapped the same, there’s no relinking. This issue seems to be going both ways, so if either editor opens anothers project, it’s extremely slow to load, if it will load at all.
Is anyone else seeing a similar issue in a shared environment? Or have ideas on where to work from on troubleshooting?

This could be related to where the media cache is set. If each machine is having to rebuild the media cache for each project, that might cause some of your issues–if you set everyone’s machine up to store the media previews next to the project files, then you may eliminate that issue. Might be worth a try on one project to see if that solves the problem.
It’s a drag to clear the media cache that way–you have to periodically search and delete all the .pek and .cfa files–but it can eliminate some of the pain points of having local media caches on each machine.
